In a landmark move, global IT giant Fujitsu will make IPF one of its first carbon neutral accounts.
Fujitsu Limited is a Japanese multinational information and communications technology equipment and services corporation, established in 1935 and headquartered in Tokyo. Fujitsu is the world's sixth-largest IT services provider by annual revenue, and the largest in Japan.
Fujitsu is a strategic partner for Infrastructure and IT Services and has been working with IPF for more than 10 years. Through its Sustainability Management Team it has been calculating the carbon footprint generated by the delivery of these services. To generate this carbon footprint, the team collected working and travel patterns of Fujitsu employees supporting the IPF account across all geography’s from April 2021 to April 2022. Fujitsu partners with IPF in the UK, Poland, India and Portugal.
Currently, the partnership is calculated to generate 32 tonnes of carbon each year which will now be offset. This is being organised with The Gold Standard Foundation, a non–profit organisation that was established in 2003 by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and other international NGOs to ensure projects that reduced carbon emissions featured the highest levels of environmental integrity and contributed to sustainable development. The carbon offsetting options for IPF are being reviewed, and they include the South Sulawesi Wind Farm in Indonesia.
The Fujitsu Chief Digital Architect, Stuart Phillips, said it’s a pleasure to work with organisations that share Fujitsu’s passion and commitments for a more sustainable future: “We look forward to working with IPF to continue the journey on using digital technology to solve big societal issues.”
Gergely Mikola, IPF's Group Corporate Affairs Director said the company is committed to working with suppliers which are also responsible businesses and take active steps to create a meaningful social value and optimise their environmental impact: “We are proud not only to become a first “green” account among Fujitsu business partners but also because, thanks to partners like Fujitsu, we create an added value for other stakeholders as we work to build a better world through financial inclusion”.
