International Personal Finance plc (IPF) has successfully completed its second annual ‘global volunteering month’ initiative bringing together a record 3,600 colleagues across all 12 markets to support the local communities in which we operate. During the month-long programme, IPF volunteers logged over 8,000 volunteering hours, and 98% said that they felt like they had made a real difference in their local community.
The record number of staff members supporting the campaign took part in a number of different projects including education, environmental conservation and supporting disadvantaged and sick children.
At Provident Mexico our volunteers organised and staffed a mobile library for the Street Child Support Center of Oaxaca, an organisation which is currently helping over 2000 homeless children. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the average child in Oaxaca has only 7.5 years of schooling – so most only reach the first year of high school. Projects like this aim to improve access to education and encourage children to engage with formal schooling.
In Poland, volunteers worked with the Ja Wisla foundation, a Polish NGO dedicated to the ecological protection of the Vistula River in Warsaw to clean up a riverside settlement area which is an important nesting place for the largest number of birds in Warsaw.
Gerard Ryan, Chief Executive Officer said: “The record number of IPF employees across all our markets who committed time to volunteering demonstrates the commitment and community spirit of our organisation. I am proud of our teams for getting out into their local communities and making a real difference to people’s lives. A big thank you to all our volunteers.”
